EMSPI Project

ENERGY MANAGEMENT STANDARDIZATION IN PRINTING INDUSTRY

The project aims to promote actions to increase the energy efficiency at European small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) of the Printing Industry by promoting the implementation of Energy Management System based on the global standard ISO 50001.

  • 100 SME’s with a fulfilled energy management system according to EN 16001 and/or ISO 50001 and potentials on energy efficiency improvement.
  • 40000 GJ, 880 ton CO2 and 915.000 € of potential savings during the project lifetime
  • Awareness of 300 SME’s per country on energy efficiency and energy management and how to use tools and project materials within the industry in each country, through direct and indirect dissemination activities.

In the longer run, the project create a “critical mass” or multiplier effect at industry level in order to expand the developed set of tools and specific communication materials more......

 

 

 

 

The output of the project at this moment

What is the opinion of the sector representatives about the outcomes of the EMSPI project in The Netherlands?

To make it possible to disseminate the results of the EMSPI project into the print media sector, several external stakeholders where interviewed about their opinion about the EMSPI outcomes so far. All of these stakeholders have a communication role within the sector and therefore it is important to hear their suggestions about possible improvement of the EMSP materials. The questions where strictly related to sector specific information and not the coaching/advising phase with the main target group: the SMEs.

For this step in the validation process of Work package 7, the consortium partners will focus on the next three kinds of topics:

  1. External quality peer-review of WP 3 – The Energy Indicators & Benchmark
  2. External quality peer-review of WP 4 – The EnMS manuals, guidelines and forms
  3. External quality peer-review of WP 5 – Specific guidelines to support EnMS

The opinion of these external stakeholders is important. They review the EMSPI materials in a different way than the SMEs. Together with the reviews of the SMEs themselves (deliverable 7.4) the consortium can improve the present state of the blueprint materials. In The Netherlands the following national and international stakeholders where interviewed:

 

  • Royal KVGO, the employers’ organisation of the print media industry in The Netherlands and partner of Intergraf. Royal KVGO is very interested in the outcomes of EMSPI, because its members will be soon confronted by the Dutch government about a mandatory improvement of energy savings within companies.
  • SCGM, the biggest certification body in the sector, who will be most likely the certification body in The Netherlands who will certificate the ISO 50001 in the sector.
  • Industrial Energy Experts, the most important energy consulting company for the sector in The Netherlands, who has direct contact with the Dutch government. IEE is involved as a partner in the “SER Energie Akkoord – Green Deal” and therefore is doing research for the Dutch government (ministry of I&M) about the possible new energy measures for the print media industry.
  • Intergraf, the international employers’ organisation for the European Federation for Print and Digital Communication, with its base in Brussels. Intergraf works with the European Union to promote and protect the interests of the printing and related industries, and to enhance the sector's competitiveness through advocacy, informing and networking. Intergraf represents 21 national printing federations in 19 EU countries and, in turn, the national members represent a large portion of the printing industry in the EU: 28 countries, totalling some 118,000 firms and 630,000 employees. Intergraf is very interested in the outcomes of EMSPI, due to their sustainability topic ‘energy management’. They want to disseminate the outcomes within the network.
  • EGIN, the European Graphic/Media Industry Network, is the platform of cooperation for education, training, research & development and labour market projects amongst the social partners of nine countries: Denmark, Germany, Iceland, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, Finland and the United Kingdom. EGIN is the only EU platform where employers’ organisations and employee organisation meet each other on an equal footing. Therefore, EGIN could till now keep its original position as a non-political organisation
